Hi there,
You would think it would be easier to find a loser than a winner, you would be wrong. The only place you can back a horse to lose is on the Exchanges, like Betfair. If you back a horse to lose, then you are being the "Bookie" and have to give odds. If you back a horse at 10/1 to lose and he wins, then for every euro, pound or dollar placed you have to pay 10. Backing an outsider at a big price to lose may seem sensible to an unexperienced punter but how many times have you seen a 20/1 or 33/1 shot romp home, a lot of times. So here are some tips on laying horses.
1. Only lay horses at 2/1 or under, usually the favourite.
2.Lay the Favourite in 4,5 and 6 horse races.
3. Lay the Favourite in Bumpers.
4. Lay favourite if he is a negative on the Exchanges.
5. Lay the Favourite for stables that are out of form.
6. Lay the Favourite on courses that have a low strike rate for favourites.
7. Lay the Favourite if the second Favourite is very close in the betting.
Good Luck
