Only last January harrowing photographs were posted on the internet chinese children crying in pain as they were put to work.  In case they had forgotten why they were there, a large sign on the wall reminded them. ‘GOLD’ it said simply. Charges are often taught by rote that their mission in life is to beat the Americans and all-comers to the top of the podium.
