Calculate the possible number of Goals/Match in the Premiership

The percentage of goals scored Home & Away in the Premiership is on the increase. To calculate the likely number of goals per game, we must look at last years stats. The strength of Attack & Defense should be taken into account. 

Total No. of Goals/No. of Teams/(Home/Away)

Total No. of Goals 2011-12 = 1066                 Home = 604           Away = 462

No. of Teams  = 20

Home = 19

Away = 19

Home = 604/20/19 = 1.59 = Average Goals Per Home Game

Away = 462/20/19 = 1.22 = Average Goals Per Away Game

Individual Stats for each Premiership side must be studied for a more accurate picture as some sides home records are superior to others and some sides away records are superior. Results that buck the trends usually level out over the year. Other factors to be taken into account include: injuries, weather, confidence, position in League and previous results.
